You may have noticed a few tweaks to the Lifecake sign-in process recently, we introduced social sign-in with Facebook and the option of magic link passwords too. We thought we should explain a little more about what they are and what they mean for you.
What is a magic link?
A magic link is a unique code sent to you enabling you to access your account without the need to remember lengthy and complicated passwords.
How does it work with Lifecake?
Once you’ve logged in to Lifecake, you’ll be given the option to either get a magic link or sign in with your existing password.
If you choose magic link, a unique link will be sent automatically to your email address you use for Lifecake. Simply open the email, click the link and you’ll be in and able to access your timeline!
It’s worth noting that a magic link is only valid for an hour and can be used only once. But don’t worry, if you forget to use it or want another one, just request it on log in and a new one will be generated for you.
Why should I use magic link?
Firstly, it’s not compulsory. If you want to continue with the classic password method that’s absolutely fine by us. But if you’re like us and have a million and one different passwords for a million and one different apps and websites then the magic link option takes away the pressure of having to remember yet another password.
It’s also super-quick and 100% safe, the link only goes to the email address you used to create your Lifecake account.
There’s now the option to sign in with Facebook, what’s the benefit?
Signing in with any social media account is designed to make the sign-in process a whole lot speedier and more convenient. You don’t have to enter an email address or create a password as the info we use to identify you is taken from the account you have already created with Facebook.
And how much of my Facebook account do you access?
When you select social sign-in, we advise you what data we access and what email account and name we will use to identify you. We will never post anything to your Facebook without your permission.
And just like the magic link, this isn’t compulsory, if you prefer to use the traditional method of email and password then that’s just fine with us too!
We hope this post answers some of your initial questions but if you do have any other feedback on the new sign-in process we’d love to hear from you in the comments below!
